Young children thrive on routine. Predictable rhy Young children thrive on routine.

Predictable rhythms help children feel safe and secure. When they know what comes next, they can relax, engage, and focus on learning. That's why our days follow a gentle flow of play, mealtimes, rest, and connection.

Routines aren't about rigidity. They're about creating the stability children need to explore, take risks, and grow with confidence.
Literacy doesn't start when children learn to read Literacy doesn't start when children learn to read. It starts much earlier, with picture books, storytelling, and the simple joy of turning pages.

When children develop a love of stories in their early years, it shapes how they see learning for the rest of their lives.

Every book is an adventure waiting to happen.
Join us for a full day of professional learning de Join us for a full day of professional learning designed for early childhood educators across Queensland.

This professional development day equips educators with approaches that help children feel safe and curious in their learning spaces, actively shape their daily routines rather than simply follow them, and see their ideas and discoveries valued through meaningful documentation.

Children benefit when educators understand how to design environments that invite exploration, use language that encourages genuine participation, and document learning in ways that reflect children's perspectives and voices.
Three expert presenters share research-informed strategies: Dr Geraldine Harris, Caroline Fewster, and Stephen Gallen.

At Lady Gowrie Queensland, mealtimes are about so At Lady Gowrie Queensland, mealtimes are about so much more than nutrition.

They're opportunities for conversation, independence, and connection. Children learn to serve themselves, try new foods, and share a table with friends. They practise patience, turn-taking, and gratitude.

These everyday moments build lifelong habits – and happy memories.
Friendships help develop identity and sense of bel Friendships help develop identity and sense of belonging. They also help children build essential social and emotional skills such as thoughtfulness, patience and tolerance, empathy, cooperation, negotiation, compromise, how to apologize and repair, and how to be forgiving of other’s mistakes.

However friendships don’t always come easily for every child, and sometimes children can benefit from having support in building connections. Help your child build positive relationships by:
•	Modelling good friendship behaviour and showing ways to be kind and cooperative
•	Drawing attention to similarities by noticing out loud when children enjoy the same things. Most friendships are built from shared interests
•	Showing how to extend play and keep it going by both offering and following others' ideas
•	Recognising and encouraging positive friendship behaviours when you see them; eg “I noticed the way you gave Charlie that shovel when he asked for it. That was a very kind thing to do”

Finally, remember that just like adults, some children are outgoing and love having a lot of friends, while others enjoy having a few close friendships. Some seek solitude and feel content in their own space, preferring to engage selectively. Support your child’s unique personality and individual needs as they connect with others.

We are a not for-profit organisation providing high quality childcare and Kindergarten programs, with a strong heritage in early childhood education in Queensland and Australia.

The Brisbane Lady Gowrie Childcare Centre was established in 1940 as a demonstration centre for excellence in early childhood education and care. We continue to be Qld’s leading provider of Community Kindergarten and Long Day Care services and uphold the highest standards in childcare.

Lady Gowrie QLD acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which our Kindergarten and childcare services are placed, and pay our respects to the elders, past and present, who have raised children, taught them about the world around them and bestowed on them the gift of culture and language.
