Novel Coronavirus Update from Department of Education, Australian Government – 2/02/2020

Please find below updated advice on Novel Coronavirus distributed by the Queensland Government, Department of Education, on the afternoon of Monday the 17th of February, 2020.

Service Managers are asked to ensure that all staff have been advised of this updated information and the updated letter for parents emailed to all families and displayed at the service.

Over the weekend the Queensland Government updated its advice on managing the Novel Coronavirus – COVID-19.

The main change which affects early childhood services is the removal of specific advice for children, teachers and workers to not attend childcare or kindergarten for 14 days after leaving Hong Kong.

Queensland Health has advised that Hong Kong is no longer a concern because it has strengthened its border controls with mainland China.

Updated self-quarantine advice (from 15 February 2020)

  • If you have been in, or transited through, mainland China in the past 14 days and are feeling unwell, see a doctor immediately.
  • If you have been in, or transited through, mainland China you must self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of departure
  • Read more information about self-quarantine and what happens at the end of quarantine on the Queensland Health website.
  • For more information for schools and early childhood centres, download the Australian Government’s updated information sheet.
  • If you have a specific question about the Coronavirus, phone 13 HEALTH (13 432584).

Below is a message I encourage you to disseminate to parents and carers as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued assistance in complying with  health directives and ensuring staff and children continue to practise good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene.

A special message for parents and carers

We are a not for-profit organisation with a strong heritage in early childhood education in Queensland and Australia. The Brisbane Lady Gowrie Child Centre was established in 1940 as a demonstration centre for excellence in early childhood education and care.

Lady Gowrie QLD acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which our Services are placed, and pay our respects to the elders, past and present, who have raised children, taught them about the world around them and bestowed on them the gift of culture and language.
