What is Kindergarten?
The Mission Australia Early Learning Kindergarten program is a structured play based program and is delivered by a qualified and experienced Early Childhood Teacher. We offer this service in 4 stand alone, purpose built centres in Queensland. The program operates at least 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per calendar year and focuses on expanding the child’s knowledge and skills while preparing them with the necessary skills for the transition to prep.
The year prior to prep is an essential and fundamental time to establish foundations for lifelong learning.
Our program is based on the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG) developed by the Queensland Studies Authority. The Queensland Studies Authority is an independent statutory body responsible for the State’s kindergarten to year 12 syllabuses, guidelines, assessment, reporting, testing, accreditation and certification services for state and non-state schools. The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline aims to specifically enrich children’s learning in the Kindergarten Year. In Queensland, the Kindergarten Year is the year before the Preparatory Year of schooling. Throughout the Kindergarten Year, children’s right to experience the joy of childhood is fundamental and learning is promoted through play, and emergent and planned learning experiences and interactions.
Why Choose Us?
We use a holistic and emergent program that is based on on respect and consideration for children’s unique interests and needs by using deliberate and well informed decisions.
We encourage literacy and numeracy skills are developed through thoughtful play.
We develop strong, safe, warm and trusting relationships with others.
We facilitate children to be active participants and decision makers in their learning and we foster an inquiry based approach to learning so that they themselves learn how to learn. Children’s interests and questions are central to the program.
We use open ended questioning and scaffold the children to feel empowered to take risks, to question, to hypothesise, to experiment, to problem solve, to explore and to create through their play.
Being part of Mission Australia brings some wonderful benefits especially regarding help for families in providing parenting support, early intervention, prevention and transition support for children with additional needs.
Being located on the grounds of State schools allows our kindergartens to have a close working relationship with the school which helps to ensure a smooth transition to prep.
