About the centre

Lady Gowrie Marchant Park Kindergarten is located in 7th Brigade Park on Turrbal Land. Our unique location enables us to offer a variety of nature-based experiences, and we are proudly an official Nature Play QLD Education Provider. Each day we are visited by many native animals, including our resident possum who enjoys using our possum house, and our colourful lorikeets, who frequent our playground trees. This is why we have named our Kindy groups are called the Possums and Lorikeets. We strive to inspire children to care for the environment and to respect all living creatures.

additional information

With the park just on the other side of the fence, we encourage families to explore the local surrounds or to utilise the playground before and after Kindy sessions. There are many events held in the park throughout the year. Marchant Park Kindergarten has been an enthusiastic participant in Clean Up Australia Day, where we have enjoyed gathering as a community to keep our local environment clean. The Marchant and Seventh Brigade Park Walk is a trail that is great for hiking, running and walking. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

We say an Acknowledgement to Country each day and educate children on how to respect the Turrbal people. We integrate Indigenous perspectives in an authentic and consistent way, across all areas of our program. We value working in partnership with families and love learning about their cultures, celebrations and interests. Each year our celebrations vary so that they are in-line with our current community. We ensure that families have regular opportunities to share this information with us.

Partnerships with families are at the core of everything that we do, and we encourage regular communication, feedback and input from the most special people in children’s lives. We welcome family involvement and have a variety of volunteer opportunities available throughout the year. We have a wonderful grandmother who has continued to do gardening with the children on a volunteer basis, over the past few years. She is a much-cherished member of our Kindy community. We encourage classroom helpers and have a classroom helper roster. We also enjoy visits from local Community helpers, such as a member of the police force and the Litter Prevention Program.

Our Kindy program is play based, flexible and developed around the children’s interests. Children come into the world strongly motivated to learn and we believe that the best education happens when children are engaged in everyday living, play and hands on exploring. Play is nature’s way of teaching children how to solve problems, control their impulses, regulate their emotions, see from others’ perspectives, negotiate differences, and get along with others as equals.

We look forward to a wonderful year of growth, learning and joy. The Kindergarten year is such a unique period in your child’s life and we feel honoured to be such an integral part of their learning journey.
