In recognition of the outstanding efforts of our staff and their contributions, the Lady Gowrie Early Childhood Scholarships and Awards are being introduced in 2023.
About the Early Childhood Scholarships and Awards
Lady Gowrie is one of Queensland’s pre-eminent and respected providers of quality, affordable early childhood education and care, with a 80 plus year history of working in the community.
Through our branch and affiliated services Lady Gowrie provides services to children and families in communities from as far north as Thursday Island, west to Blackall and south to Coolangatta.
The strength of our reputation stems from our dedicated and passionate staff who contribute to the delivery of exceptional programs and services for children and families.
In recognition of the outstanding efforts of our staff and their contributions to Gowrie’s commitment to continuous improvement and pursuit of excellence, the Lady Gowrie Early Childhood Scholarships and Awards are being introduced in 2023.
In this, our inaugural year, we are offering three scholarships and three awards:
- The Jane Bourne Excellence in Leadership Scholarship
- The Elaine Saylor – Headstart First Nations Outstanding Educator Scholarship
- Lady Gowrie Aspiring Early Childhood Teacher Scholarship
- Lady Gowrie Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher Award
- Lady Gowrie Outstanding Trainee Award
- Lady Gowrie Outstanding Service Award
The scholarships and awards are open to staff from Lady Gowrie branches and affiliated services.
Scholarships
The scholarships each will provide the recipients with up to $5000 to undertake academic study or a similar professional learning course that will enhance their knowledge, skills and/or qualifications.
The Jane Bourne Excellence in Leadership Scholarship is aimed at leadership studies.
The Elaine Saylor – Headstart First Nations Outstanding Educator Scholarship is aimed at furthering outcomes for First Nations children.
The Lady Gowrie Aspiring Early Childhood Teacher Scholarship is aimed at supporting enrolment in an early childhood teaching degree.
Awards
In recognition of excellence in their fields, recipients of the Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher and Outstanding Trainee awards will each receive up to $2000 to undertake professional or personal learning or growth.
The Lady Gowrie Outstanding Service Award will be a perpetual award, with the recipient recognised on an organisation honour board and a personal memento.

The Brisbane Lady Gowrie Childcare Centre was established in 1940 as a demonstration centre for excellence in early childhood education and care. We continue to be Qld’s leading provider of Community Kindergarten and Long Day Care services and uphold the highest standards in childcare.
Lady Gowrie QLD acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which our Kindergarten and childcare services are placed, and pay our respects to the elders, past and present, who have raised children, taught them about the world around them and bestowed on them the gift of culture and language.
